Cogmed Working Memory TrainingCogmed Working Memory Training is an evidence-based training program developed by leading neuroscientists, designed to improve attention and working memory in individuals of varying ages and abilities. It has been effectively used in individuals with ADHD, working memory deficits due to learning disability, cochlear implants, stroke, acquired brain injury, as well as the general population. If you or your child have difficulty concentrating, ignoring irrelevant information, holding several chunks of information in mind, planning and organizing, getting started and staying on task, then Cogmed training might be helpful in resolving these issues.Cogmed is backed by peer-reviewed, controlled research done at leading universities around the world and is proven to lead to significant, real life improvements in 80% of users. The training is only available through professional channels and is delivered through a worldwide network of Qualified Cogmed Practices. The training is always led by a Cogmed Qualified Coach who works with the user to structure training and ensure the proper use of the program to achieve the best possible results. The training is supervised by a Qualified Assurance Person (a psychologist or psychiatrist) who determines the suitability of the training for each client and ensures adherence to the guidelines. The Cogmed training method consists of 25 computerized training sessions, each 30-45 minutes long. Each session consists of a selection of various tasks that target the different aspects of working memory. The training is done on a computer with the assistance of a Training Aid (for children) and a Cogmed Coach. The training program is five weeks long with five sessions every week. During training, the user’s performance is tracked online and can be viewed by the user and his/her Cogmed Coach who communicates with the user throughout the five weeks to assist him/her through the program. It is a rigorous and effective program designed to improve working memory through intensive and systematic training. The program is both challenging and rewarding. For the best possible training effects, sustained effort and rigorous adherence to the guidelines are necessary. The Cogmed network of professionals has a proven track record of providing clients with excellent support and results. The complete program includes: Initial Interview - The Cogmed Qualified Practice schedules a session with the person interested in going through the program (or the parent if it is regarding a child). The likelihood of him/her benefiting from the training is evaluated. A review of a psychological report is helpful but not necessary. Start-up session - The Cogmed Coach plans and structures the training together with the user/ family. Five weeks of training with weekly coach calls - The user is training at home and talks with the Cogmed Coach on a weekly basis to get advice on how to get the most out of the training, hear feedback, and increase motivation. Access to the Cogmed Training Web - Both the user and the Cogmed Coach review and monitor the results of each day’s training, using our online system. Wrap-up session - About one month after the training is completed, the Cogmed Coach summarizes the training together with the user and provides feedback data from rating scales and the Cogmed Training Web. Six months follow-up interview - The Cogmed Coach re-evaluates the effects of the training now that more time elapsed and the effects have fully emerged. Cogmed Extension Training - When the intensive five week training is completed and the training has been wrapped-up, the user gets access to 100 sessions of training with the software, to use over a 12 month period. Cogmed Extension Training is optional and no extra fee is involved for the first 12 months. |
